| Canada's Forest Sector |
- Canada is the world’s largest exporter of forest products.
- Its forest diversity means Canada can sustainably produce a wide range of quality products, including softwood lumber, newsprint, wood pulp, wood panels and value-added products.
- More than 300 rural, remote and forest-based Canadian communities depend on the forest sector for at least half of their base income.
- Canada’s forest industry supports approximately 300,000 direct jobs.
- Although Canada’s wood and paper products industries are an important part of the country’s economy, only one third of one per cent of commercial forest area is harvested each year.
