Canada is the world's largest exporter of forest products with the forest industry contributing $20.81 billion to the country’s GDP in 2014.
Its forest diversity means Canada can sustainably produce a wide range of quality products, including softwood lumber, newsprint, wood pulp, wood panels and value-added products.
Canada's forest industry supports over 195,000 direct jobs and approximately 200 rural Canadian communities depend on the forest sector for at least half of their base income.
Although Canada's wood and paper products industries are an important part of the country's economy, less than 1% of commercial forest area is harvested each year.
